About AAWCC

The American Association for Women in Community Colleges was organized in 1973 and became a Council of the American Association of Community and Junior Colleges (AACJC), now the American Association for Community Colleges (AACC). In response to an affirmative vote of the membership, the organization's name was officially changed on April 26, 1993 to the American Association for Women in Community Colleges (AAWCC).

AAWCC is an organization whose mission is to inspire, champion, and celebrate the talents within each of us. AAWCC provides
publications and events geared specifically to the needs of women who are community college staff or board members.

AAWCC Focuses on the Following Issues:
  • Strengthening the local chapters, state sections and regional activities;
  • Providing information on important issues to chapters and sections through our publications and technology;
  • Honoring outstanding community college women, men and model programs at our annual awards breakfast;
  • Advocating for issues on local, regional and national levels in conjunction with American Association of Community Colleges;
  • Providing opportunities for career advancement;
  • Forming partnerships for resources, viability and stability for our membership;
  • Continuing to hold national conferences with National Institute of Leadership Development;
  • Leading the way on issues such as wellness, welfare, work and family, women worldwide, career choices for women, and workforce excellence.
