Hansen attends national talk on education innovation

Southwestern Oregon Community College President Dr. Judith Hansen is one of 20 community college presidents nationwide invited to attend a United States Department of Education Office of Vocational and Adult Education “Integrating Developmental Education” meeting.

Hansen is attending the invitation-only meeting with other community college leaders from around the country today in New Orleans. Participants all represent institutions that have adopted innovative approaches to integrating developmental education into college curriculum. The presentation is the second of four meetings put on by the United States Department of Education on “Issues that Matter to Community College.”

The issues selected for each meeting were identified by college leaders, and the purpose is to give college leaders opportunity to share experiences and learn from colleagues about their challenges and successes in providing developmental education for lower-skilled students enrolled in credential and credit programs.

The meetings will result in publications reflecting the discussions about the concerns, challenges and successes that community colleges face as they strive to integrate developmental education with credential and credit programs.
