Southwestern to host hunger awareness eventAs Martin Luther King Day approaches, Southwestern Oregon Community College is hosting an Ox-fam Hunger Banquet in recognition of Dr. King’s efforts to promote social justice and equality. The free event – scheduled at 6 p.m. on Jan. 18 in the Lakeview Rooms of Empire Hall on the Coos Bay campus – will include a presentation about the world’s dire hunger problem with striking representation of the disparity in access to resources across nations. All interested students and community members are invited to attend, and Southwestern is seeking 50 individuals to actively participate in the demonstration. All participants will receive free meals, as well as complimentary T-shirts commemorating Martin Luther King Day.
