Auditions scheduled for Spring Term production

The Dolphin Players and the Southwestern Oregon Community College Theater Department are hosting auditions for their Spring Term main-stage one-act production.

Open readings are scheduled at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday and Thursday, April 2 and 3, in the Hales Center for the Performing Arts on the Southwestern campus in Coos Bay. The comedies “Bits and Pieces,” by Corinne Jacker, and “Under Control,” by Elinor Jones, will be presented together under a bill entitled “Death Lite.” Performances are planned May 9, 10, 11, 16 and 17.

In “Bits and Pieces” a brilliant young professor dies and wills virtually all of his organs to be transplanted – an act that leaves his widow perplexed and unsatisfied – especially at the funeral for the few remains. She bribes the doctor for a list of recipients and sets out on a quest for the bits and pieces of her husband, and their life together. In “Under Control” a brother and sister join their stepmother in Florida for their father’s burial. The crux of their unease is how to dispose of the ashes of the deceased – a problem that is ultimately resolved in a rather hilarious but mutually satisfactory manner.

Five men and four women are needed to fill multiple roles for the production which will be directed by Alice Carlson, whose previous work with the Dolphin Players includes “Antigone,” “Search for Signs” and “Arms and the Man.” For more information, those interested can contact Producer Rob Clingan at 888-1578.
