Southwestern offers online Pharmacy Tech trainingSouthwestern Oregon Community College is offering an online Pharmacy Technician Certification exam preparation course during Spring Term. The course is designed to prepare students for the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board national exam. The course covers exam topics including pharmacy-specific medical terminology, defining drugs by generic and brand names and reading and interpreting prescriptions. The course will cover dosage calculations, intravenous flow rates, drug compounding, dose conversions, dispensing prescriptions, inventory control and pharmacy billing and reimbursement, as well as study and testing strategies for taking the Board exams. A new Oregon Administrative Rule was created to ensure all pharmacy technicians in Oregon become certified pharmacy technicians by passing a certification examination. The rule requires all current pharmacy technicians to become certified by Oct. 1 of this year. All new pharmacy technicians will have until Oct. 1; one year after initial licensure; or prior to the pharmacy technician’s 19th birthday, whichever is later, to obtain certification. The 11-hour online course will be offered with start dates on March 31, April 28 and May 23. The course fee is $135. For more information, those interested can call 756-6736.
