Southwestern offers parenting program in Coos Bay

Southwestern Oregon Community College is offering all parents the opportunity to gain new skills and enjoy a fun night out with their families in Coos Bay.

The free Pathways of Positive Parenting programs, which include dinner and parenting sessions – along with high-quality child care provided on-site for children 10 and younger at no charge – all are offered at Madison Elementary School, 400 Madison St., in Coos Bay the following times and dates:

  • 5:30 to 8 p.m. on April 1, 8, 15, 22 and 29;
  • 5:30 to 8 p.m. on May 6, 13, 20 and 27; and
  • 5:30 to 8 p.m. on June 3.

Program information comes from “The Incredible Years” curriculum which covers building family relationships, child-directed play, praise and rewards, how positive focus reduces negative behaviors and effective limit-setting. The program is being funded by a grant from the Ford Family Foundation.
