Oral history workshop scheduled at SouthwesternThere still is time to sign up for an oral history workshop with a public historian at Southwestern Oregon Community College. Public Historian Donna Sinclair will be giving a one-day workshop on collecting oral history from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 5, in Stensland 201 on the Southwestern Oregon Community College campus in Coos Bay. Sinclair currently is Oral Historian for the Center for Columbia River History as well as Oral Historian and Project Manager for two important ongoing projects – the U.S. District Court of Oregon Oral History Project and Reed Stories, oral histories collected from Reed College alumni. She also has served as an oral historian, researcher and writer for the Arlington Club History Project in Portland and currently teaches at Portland State University, where she is working toward a Ph.D. in Urban Studies. Oral history is a valuable tool for local and public history, family histories and club and organizational histories. History isn’t just about names and dates; it is stories. The workshop is free, but is limited to 25 students. Participants have the option to bring their own lunches or purchase them in the Southwestern dining hall. For more information or to sign up, those interested can contact Joy Parker at 888-1504. Press Release Date: April 02, 2008
