Southwestern to host College 101 eventAbout 700 high school juniors will have an opportunity to experience college life at College 101, scheduled from 9:15 a.m. to noon on Tuesday, Dec. 11, on the Southwestern Oregon Community College campus in Coos Bay. Southwestern Oregon Community College Educational Talent Search/Upward Bound and participating high schools all are sponsoring the event, which entails high school juniors from Marshfield, North Bend, Reedsport, Coquille, Myrtle Point, Bandon, Pacific and Gold Beach high schools taking the morning off from their regular classes to visit the Southwestern campus. Students will start off with an orientation, followed by three 40-minute sessions simulating college courses and talks them about college life. High schools provide chaperones and transportation, and 23 Southwestern faculty members volunteer their time to teach classes. Educational Talent Search/Upward Bound staff members generate individual class schedules for students and coordinate the event. Press Release Date: December 6, 2007
