College offers parenting program in Bandon, Coos Bay

Southwestern Oregon Community College is offering all parents the opportunity to gain new skills and enjoy a fun night out with their families in Coos Bay and Bandon.

The free Pathways of Positive Parenting programs will include dinner and parenting sessions – along with high-quality child care provided on-site for children 10 and younger at no charge – to participating families. Sessions are scheduled the following locations, times and dates:

Ocean Crest Elementary School in Bandon from 5:30 to 8 p.m. every Tuesday, Jan. 8 through March 11; and
Bunker Hill Elementary School in Coos Bay from 5:30 to 8 p.m. every Thursday, Jan. 10 through March 13.

Program information comes from “The Incredible Years” curriculum, which covers building family relationships, child-directed play, praise and rewards, now positive focus reduces negative behaviors and effective limit-setting. The program is being funded by a grant from the Ford Family Foundation.
