High School Connections

In our Tech Prep/College High Programs, high school students have the opportunity to earn college credit at the same time as earning standard high school credit. An articulation agreement between Southwestern and all local high schools allows students the opportunity to receive dual high school/college credit for specific courses. Tech Prep courses and programs offer students the possibility of a 4-year career pathway consisting of the last two years of high school plus two years of a community college associate degree program. College High courses provide capable students the opportunity to take transfer level college courses while remaining in the high school setting.

2+2 Advantages

Participants in the High School Connections have several opportunities and advantages:

  • Money: The cost to take college classes while in the high school is significantly less than comparable college tuition - often only 10% of the full cost.
  • Credits: The college credits earned during high school are almost always transferable to any Oregon community college program and to many four-year higher education institutions.
  • Transition: This program provides students the opportunity to take college level coursework while still in the high school leading to a smooth, clear transition to the higher education setting. Student success in the program helps to define educational and career goals.
  • High Standards: The coordination of curriculum and course content between high school and Southwestern faculty ensures that students meet college standards.
  • Time: Students can train for a professional technical career or take a significant step toward higher education while still in high school.
