Southwestern Laker Athletics
Being a member of the Northwest Athletic Association for Community Colleges (NWAACC), Southwestern offers several inter-collegiate sports: baseball, cheer/dance, men's and women's cross country, men's and women's golf, men's and women's basketball, men's and women's soccer, softball, men's and women's track & field, volleyball and wrestling.
NWAACC is the parent organization for thirty-five (35) community colleges in the states of Washington and Oregon. Southwestern athletes are called Lakers and proudly wear red and blue while competing. Southwestern is also a member of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) exclusively for the sport of wrestling.
The Equity in Athletics Disclosure Act requires co-educational institutions of postsecondary education that participate in a Title IV, federal student financial assistance program, and have an intercollegiate athletic program, to prepare an annual report to the Department of Education on athletic participation, staffing, and revenues and expenses, by men's and women's teams. The Department will use this information in preparing its required report to the Congress on gender equity in intercollegiate athletics.
