JASON COOPER
Head Coach
Jason Cooper enters his first season at Southwestern Oregon Community College, his fourth year of coaching at the collegiate level. Cooper’s responsibilities will include coaching the infielders and hitters. He has been a graduate assistant coach at Delta State University for two years and spent time as a volunteer assistant at Johnson County Community College.
Cooper comes to SOCC after serving a year as an assistant coach for Harrisonville High School in Harrisonville, MO. The Wildcats produced three All-State and five All-Conference performers in Cooper’s only campaign with the program.
Cooper assisted with the infielders and hitters for all-time winningest coach in NCAA Division II baseball, Mike Kinnison. During Cooper’s tenure with the DSU baseball program (2008-2009), the Statesmen posted 86 wins, two Gulf South Conference West Division Championships (2008 & 2009), a Gulf South Conference Tournament Championship (2008), a second place finish in the 2008 South Central Regional Tournament; produced 16 All-Gulf South Conference selections, the 2008 Gulf South Conference Player of the Year, eight All-South Central/South Region selections, and two ABCA All-Americans. Delta State also had three players move on to the professional ranks during that time. Kenny Smalley was selected in the 24th round of the 2008 draft by the Oakland Athletics, Devin Goodwin was selected in the 33rd round of the 2009 draft by the St. Louis Cardinals and Rickey Noland also signed with St. Louis as a free agent in 2009.
Cooper enjoyed a solid playing career at Union University in Jackson, TN. He started 111 games for the Bulldogs in two seasons of play (2006-2007) while making up one half of the best middle infield in school history. He was honorable mention All-TranSouth Conference in 2006 and was awarded the TranSouth Conference gold glove award in 2007. Prior to Union, he played two seasons at Johnson County Community College under current Laker Head Coach, Daniel Esposito and NJCAA Hall of Fame coach, Kent Shelley. Cooper was also a member of the 2003 Central Missouri State University team that won the NCAA Division II National Championship, coached by current Kansas State University Head Coach, Brad Hill.
Cooper is a graduate of Union University in Jackson, TN where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration in 2007. He earned his Master’s degree in Health, Physical Education and Recreation from Delta State University in 2009.
