Trevor Hoppe
Head Coach
In 2007-08 Coach Hop guided the Lakers to a record of 22-11 and a trip to the final four of the NWAACC Tournament. Since taking over the program, he instituted a high scoring, high octane fastbreak brand of basketball. Coach Hop’s plan for the Lakers is to continue to play an up-tempo style of basketball while focusing on fundamentals, team play, and unselfishness.
Coach Hop earned his A.A. degree from College of the Redwoods and his B.A. and M.A. in Physical Education from Humboldt State University. Coach Hop is a member of the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC). Coach Hop is also active on campus at Southwestern he speaks annually at the freshman seminar series and conducts a summer youth basketball camp along with women’s basketball coach Mike Herbert.
Coach Hop is married to Katherine Hoppe, who is the Director of the Coos Bay – North Bend Visitor & Convention Bureau. Coach Hop and Katherine are the proud parents of three pets, their dogs Shortie, Vegas, and Nyak they reside in North Bend.

Jeff Johnson
Assistant Basketball Coach
Coach Jeff Johnson begins his sixth year or coaching and his third year as an assistant coach at Southwestern Oregon Community College. Coach Johnson has also served as head freshman coach and varsity assistant coach at Thornton High School.
Coach Johnson earned his B.A. in Sport and Exercise Science from the University of Northern Colorado. Coach Johnson is working on his M.A. in Coaching and Athletic Administration from Concordia University, CA. Coach Johnson also teaches Physical Education full-time at North Bend Middle School.
Coach Johnson is married to Dawn Johnson, who is a physical therapist at Bay Area Hospital. Coach Johnson and Dawn are the proud parents of a son Noah born this past June, they reside in Coos Bay.
