Southwestern's Women's Basketball Coaches
The 2013-2014 year will begin Coach Herbert’s 16th year of coaching, sixth year as the Head Coach at SWOCC and his third year as the Athletic Director for the Lakers. In only his 3rd season, Coach Herbert helped the Women's Basketball team to an 18-10 record and their first appearance at the NWAACC tournament since 2001. This past season the Lakers qualified again for the NWAACC championship tournament and finished 8th overall with an overall record of 17-13.
Coach Herbert came to SWOCC in the fall of 2007 as a part-time instructor and assistant coach for the men’s basketball program. That season the men’s team qualified for the NWAACC tournament and made it to the final four. Previous to coming to SWOCC Coach Herbert resided in Granbury, Texas where he was a Physical Education teacher and basketball coach at Garner ISD. Coach Herbert has also been an assistant coach at Sandia High School (Albuquerque, NM), Santa Rosa High School (Santa Rosa, CA), Gavilan Junior College (Gilroy, CA) and Humboldt State University (Arcata, CA).
Coach Herbert earned his B.S. degree in Kinesiology from Sonoma State University in Rohnert Park, CA, his M.S. degree in Kinesiology from Humboldt State University, and his Ph.D. in Health, Physical Education & Recreation from The University of New Mexico.
Coach Herbert is married to Megan Corriea, who is the Head Softball coach at Southwestern. Coach Herbert and Coach Corriea are the parents of Joseph (7) and Jackson (3) and currently reside in Coos Bay.
The 2013-2014 basketball season will be Coach Jones’ 5th year as the Assistant Women’s Basketball Coach. Working with Coach Herbert the team had an 18-10 record and their first appearance at the NWAACC tournament since 2001. This past season the Lakers qualified once again for the NWAACC tournament and finished 8th with a 17-13 overall record.
Coach Jones’ earned her B.S. in Sociology from Vanguard University of Southern California, in Costa Mesa, CA. She is currently a stay at home mom and owns her own bookkeeping business, J2K2 Books.
Coach Jones’ is married to Jeremy David Jones who is the Assistant Director of Housing at SWOCC. Coach Jones’ and Jeremy have two kids Jeremiah and Kylie and currently reside in Coos Bay.
The 2013-2014 basketball season will be Coach Brzeczek's 1st year as an Assistant Coach with the Women's Basketball team. Coach Brzeczek attended SWOCC from 2008-2011 where she played under Coach Herbert and Coach Jones. During her first year (2008-2009) she made the Southern-Region All-Freshman Team and in her second season of playing (2010-2011) she helped advance the Lady Lakers to their first appearance at the NWAACC tournament since 2001 while being named to the NWAACC All-Southern Region 1st team and the Southern Region All-Star team.
After her playing days at SWOCC were complete, Coach Brzeczek received a scholarship to play basketball at Regis University in Denver, CO. She graduated Regis University in the Spring of 2013 with her B.S. in Business-Management.
Coach Brzeczek is originally from San Diego, CA and currently resides in Coos Bay.
