Coach Mike Herbert begins his 11th year of coaching and his first year as the Head Coach at Southwestern Oregon Community College. Last season Coach Herbert helped the Men's Basketball team to the final four at the NWAACC tournament. Previous to last season Coach Herbert resided in Granbury, Texas where he was a Physical Education teacher and basketball coach at Garner ISD. Coach Herbert has also been an assistant coach at Sandia High School (Albuquerque, NM), Santa Rosa High School (Santa Rosa, CA), Gavilan Junior College (Gilroy, CA) and Humboldt State University (Arcata, CA).

Coach Herbert earned his B.S. degree from Sonoma State University in Rohnert Park, CA and his M.S. degree in Kinesiology from Humboldt State University. Coach Herbert has recently completed his Ph.D. in Health, Physical Education & Recreation from The University of New Mexico.

Coach Herbert is married to Megan Corriea, who is the Head Softball coach at Southwestern. Coach Herbert and Coach Corriea are the parents of Joseph Michael and currently reside in Coos Bay.
