Stan Goodell is Selected as Southwestern’s 2013 Distinguished Alumnus

Stan Goodell is the recipient of the Distinguished Alumni Award of Southwestern Oregon Community College for 2013. Mary Paczesniak, a teaching colleague who nominated Goodell says “Stan inspires people of all ages from elementary school though adulthood, to believe in themselves and to challenge themselves to become the best that they can be.” Goodell will be honored at a dinner on June 13th and give the commencement address at Southwestern’s graduation on June 14, 2013.

Geology Lecture at SWOCC about the Origin, Evolution and Impacts of Large Submarine Landslides

Coos Bay, OR. - The Geology Lecture Series concludes for this academic year on Saturday, May 18, 2013 at 7:00 pm with "Origin, Evolution, and Impacts of Large Submarine Landslides" by Dr. Brandon Dugan. The free lecture is at the Hales Center for the Performing Arts on the SWOCC campus and is open to all members of the community. Dr. Dugan received his BS from the University of Minnesota and PhD from Penn State.

Welding Students at Southwestern Achieve a High Rate of Certification

Coos Bay, Oregon - First year welding students at Southwestern Oregon Community College were tested and certified in two processes by Mike Hogan, Certified Welding Inspector who is employed by Sause Bros. Ocean Towing Company Inc. Twenty-three students received 39 certifications in shield metal arc welding.

Scylise Little of SWOCC Was Named 2013 Coca-Cola Community College Academic Team Bronze Scholar

Scylise Little, a student at Southwestern Oregon Community College has been named a 2013 Coca-Cola Community College Academic Team Bronze Scholar. The Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation sponsors the Coca-Cola Community College Academic Team program by recognizing 50 Gold, 50 Silver and 50 Bronze Scholars, and providing nearly $200,000 in scholarships annually. Each Bronze Scholar receives a $1,000 scholarship and a special medallion.

Brookings, OR. - Southwestern Oregon Community College is hosting a Traffic Control Flagger training class Tuesday, April 16, 2013 in Brookings. This course meets Oregon Department of Transportation requirements for traffic control flaggers. Students who complete this course will receive certification cards.
