ART*0010 PRINTMAKING
Learn the art making process of Durer and Warhol in this introductory printmaking course. Students will create two large projects centered on relief printing and screen printing. You will learn how to carve onto linoleum or wood, apply ink with a roller and be able to adjust and calibrate large, professional printing presses. Bring a special drawing and learn how to make multiples of your favorite work. The class will also include an in-depth introduction to creating a stencil on a silk screen, the proper pressure to apply with a squeegee and the right paper to use. You will learn about proper printmaking papers, the strengths and weaknesses of different printing techniques and everything that makes printmaking such a rich and quirky medium. The class will include historical lectures on different printmakers and their styles. Taught by Alex Solomon

ART*0138 STAINED GLASS
Dana Rieck teaches in a studio format, where everyone works independently at their own pace and on a work of their choosing. Most students work using the copper foil technique, but advanced students also use lead came. Rieck says “I’m there to help them as much as to teach them—glass is something you learn by doing, by messing up and breaking pieces, and redoing them.” Dana finds teaching the class gratifying, in seeing someone progress to the point that the finished piece usually transcends what the student thought their abilities would be. He adds,” it’s a fun, low-stress, atmosphere!”
