Brookings, OR. ---Southwestern Oregon Community College will offer courses in Adult Basic Education (ABE) preparation for the General Educational Development (GED) exam, English as a Second Language (ESL), and citizenship during spring term 2012 in Curry County.
ABE and GED classes will meet in Gold Beach on Mondays and Wednesdays and in Brookings on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. for 10 weeks. An ABE class that meets from 12:00 to 3:00 p.m. is also offered at the Brookings campus. In this class, the focus is on improving reading and writing skills.
English as a Second Language (ESL) class meets in Brookings on Saturday mornings from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., and a citizenship class is offered in Brookings on Wednesdays from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
A two-session orientation is required for all new students in ABE/GED classes in Brookings and Gold Beach, and students must attend both sessions. The orientation sessions in Gold Beach are scheduled on April 2 and April 4. The orientation sessions in Brookings are scheduled on April 3 and April 5. Both orientations are scheduled from 6:00 to 8:30 p.m.
ABE and GED courses will be offered in Port Orford on Thursdays from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Port Orford library. Orientation for the ABE/GED course in Port Orford will be from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. on April 5. Please call 541-247-2741 in Gold Beach to register.
