Gold Beach, OR. - Southwestern Oregon Community College is hosting Mushroom Identification workshops in Port Orford and Brookings. The workshops have been rescheduled to meet November 18 and 19 in Brookings and November 19 and 20 in Port Orford.
Positive identification of local edible and non-edible species—as well as favorable locations, preparation, and preservation methods—will be covered during the evening lecture. The group will participate in a field trip the next day to hunt for wild mushrooms. After the field trip, students will have an opportunity to taste the mushrooms. Registered students may bring mushrooms to the class for identification.
The Brookings class is scheduled to begin with a lecture segment from 6 to 9 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 18 at Southwestern’s Brookings Center, followed by a field trip from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 19.
The Port Orford class will begin with the lecture segment from 6 to 9 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 19, at the Port Orford City Hall followed by a field trip from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 20.
