An AARP Driver Safety Program class is scheduled for Saturday, October 26 from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Southwestern’s Gold Beach Center, under the auspices of Southwestern Oregon Community College.
All attendees 55 or older who complete the Driver Safety Program are certified to receive a reduction in auto insurance from their insurance agent per Oregon state law, provided that all insured in the household are over 55 and have taken this class. Drivers who have previously taken the class and received auto insurance discounts are urged to renew their eligibility for reduced auto insurance rates by taking the class every three years if 69 years old or under and every two years if 70 or older.
Membership in AARP is not required for class attendance; the class is now open to all ages. Driver Safety Program class reviews how to compensate for age-related changes thereby reducing traffic violations, crashes and chances for injury, in addition to discussing updated Oregon traffic laws.
Pre-registration is required and can be made by calling Southwestern at 541-247-2741. Cost of tuition is $12 for AARP members, $14 for non-members, and includes a workbook and other materials. Class starts promptly at 9:00 a.m.
