Southwestern Oregon Community College is hosting Mushroom Identification workshops in Port Orford and Brookings. The workshops are scheduled to meet November 15 and 16 in Brookings and November 16 and 17, 2012 in Port Orford. The class will be taught by mycologist Bob Burch.
Positive identification of local edible and non-edible species—as well as favorable locations, preparation, and preservation methods—will be covered during the evening lecture. The group will participate in a field trip the next day to hunt for wild mushrooms. After the field trip, students will have an opportunity to taste the mushrooms. Registered students may bring mushrooms to the class for identification.
The Brookings class is scheduled to begin with a lecture segment from 6:00pm to 900 p.m. on Friday, November, 15 at Southwestern’s Brookings Center, followed by a field trip from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, November. 16.
