Positive Parenting Classes in Curry County a Success!

On Tuesday, June 2nd Pathways To Positive Parenting, in Partnership with Southwestern Oregon Community College and Azalea Middle School, completed the last of ten parenting sessions. Spring terms’ classes were unique to Curry County for two reasons. First, Make Parenting A Pleasure Curriculum was presented for the first time, and second, because The Incredible Years Parenting Curriculum was taught in Spanish.

The facilitator Veronica Burke and her co-facilitator Maria Cruz helped prepare and deliver the translated materials. Recently Veronica was honored by Manos Unidos as a distinguished member of the Hispanic Community for her work as parent educator. Veronica took the Incredible Years program as a parent in English. She then trained to become a facilitator for Southwestern Oregon Community College’s Pathways To Positive Parenting. Veronica had the foresight to realize that Hispanic families in our region were eager to attend classes. She was right. Enrollment for the class was high and 15 to 18 families directly benefited from her efforts and were able to attend parenting classes in Spanish for the first time in Curry County.

Thanks goes out to all who supported and were a part the spring classes. Fall classes will begin in September. Contact Southwestern Oregon Community College for more information at (541) 469-5017.
