Southwestern offers child care classes in Brookings

Southwestern Oregon Community College is offering two classes for childcare providers on Saturday, June 7, at the Brookings Center, 420 Alder St., in Brookings.

Medic First Aid CPR/First Aid for Children, Infants and Adults is scheduled to be offered by CARE Connections staff members from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. that day. This pediatric CPR and First Aid class meets training requirements for regulated child care and Department of Human Services enhanced rate programs in Oregon. Cost for the class is $20.

The DHS Child Care Provider Orientation is scheduled at the same location from 2 to 4 p.m. that day and covers important information about the DHS listing process, such as handling unscheduled absences and qualifying for enhanced rates. Both exempt and registered child care providers can be listed with DHS for payments to provide care for children of eligible families through state child care assistance and subsidy programs. Exempt providers attending the orientation are eligible for a stipend, including family members, friends and neighbors who provide child care.

Pre-registration is required and space is limited. For more information about child care assistance programs or child care referrals in Curry county – or to sign up for child care classes – those interested can contact Liz Cohen at CARE Connections at (541) 469-9299 or toll-free at (800) 419-1371.
