Southwestern Oregon Community College is offering a workshop on Ikebana, the ancient Japanese art of flower arranging, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, April 19, in Curry County.
Instructor Feliz Hartstra will teach students the basic principles of proportion, line and line-mass, design and execution with extensive use of overheads. Students will receive individual instruction in the creation of projects. In this one-day, hands-on workshop, all students will choose appropriate plant material and create two different types of arrangements.
Students should bring to class two vases – one tall and the other flat – two floral frogs, a pair of shears, a pail for water and lunch. Extra items to bring might include river rocks and cameras. Flowers will be provided by That Special Touch.
Space is limited, and registration is required by April 11. Cost to participate is $35. For more information or to register, those interested can contact the Southwestern Brookings Center at (541) 469-5017.
