Port Orford, OR. - Southwestern Oregon Community College and Port Orford Ocean Team are co-sponsoring “Weather for Mariners,” a presentation by National Weather Service meteorologist, Sven Nelaimischkies. This free program is scheduled for Thursday, November 8, 2012 from 2:00pm to 3:30 p.m. at the Port Orford Library Community Room. Commercial and recreational fishers and other ocean sport enthusiasts are encouraged to attend.
This National Weather Service presentation will teach you about weather patterns across the Pacific Northwest, especially their local effects for Southern Oregon. You will learn about the dangers of high winds, steep waves, treacherous bar conditions in winter storms, and about severe summer thunderstorms. You’ll also find out where you can get the most up-to-date and accurate forecast information before heading to the ocean.
