Robert
Clingan, Assistant Professor, acting,
directing, department head.
Originally from Baltimore, Rob brings to Southwestern 20 years experience in directing contemporary, classical, post-modern and intercultural plays. He received a Fulbright Scholarship to Japan in 1998 and has studied and performed internationally in Cairo, Tokyo, Bali, Brussels, Hong Kong and Switzerland. Rob is a founding member of Theatre Nohgaku, a professional cross-cultural performance group. His past teachers include Richard Emmert, Juanita Rockwell, Vincent Dowling, Annetta Jefferson as well as noted Kabuki artist Shozo Sato and Noh masters Akira Matsui and Sadamu Omura. He received his M.F.A from Towson University and B.A. from the College of Wooster. Rob taught previously at Loyola College of Maryland, Coppin State College and Towson University.
Alice
Carlson, Dolphin Players, Department Production
Manager & Volunteer Faculty for Southwestern,
directing, theatre technology. Alice came to the Coos Bay
area in 1971 to teach drama at North Bend High School and
has lived here ever since. Now retired from 25 years in
the secondary schools, she makes a career of volunteerism.
Alice studied theater at Lewis and Clark College and holds
a B.A. in theater and a M.A. from the University of Oregon.
She has worked with numerous community theater groups in
the area, specializing in directing and lighting, and is
a honorary life member of the Dolphin Players.
