Welcome Online Student!

You have registered for an online course at Southwestern provided by a partnering Oregon Community College. This course will transcript as a SOCC course but you will need to follow the procedures from the originating school on getting to class, purchasing books and technical assistance.

How do I know which college my class originates?

Check Southwestern's WebAdvisor (NOT WebCT) to see what school your course originates.

You can find it by clicking on:

How do I get to my class?

Each college has a different process and system for its online courses. Please make sure you know which college is offering the course(s) you are taken go to the SOCC Distance Learning webpage and click on the correct college. You MUST follow the information given carefully.

If you have not taken an online course before, if you are not familiar with computers, email, attachments, etc. you may find this experience challenging. Southwestern offers three tools for your convenience.

  1. Introduction to Online Learning, an online short course to familiarize you with what you with the tools need to know in WebCT. Call the Distance Learning office for dates: 541-888-7415.
  2. Student Online WebCT Tutorial for Southwestern.

What is the difference between WebAdvisor and WebCT?

WebCT: WebCT is the web based software designed to deliver online learning. It was originally developed by the University of British Columbia and is presently being used by universities and colleges all over the world. Southwestern has adopted WebCT as our delivery platform for our online courses.

WebAdvisor: WebAdvisor is Southwestern's web based registration system (and more!) that allows you to register online. It is for all students and all courses offered by Southwestern. Not just online courses.

What if I decide to withdraw from the course?
