You can learn English at one of the most beautiful locations in the United States! Southwestern Oregon Community College on the beautiful Oregon Coast is offering the English Language Institute (ELI) – an intensive English program where you can study and sit for the TOEFL, improve your conversational English skills and prepare to attend American colleges and universities – starting in April. You can study English and learn about American culture by living in the country!

ELI uses a whole language approach to help you improve your written, verbal and conversational English language skills. ELI also is the perfect place to prepare for the new TOEFL Internet-Based Test (iBT) administered by the Educational Testing Service, because it’s a certified testing site for that exam. You also will be able to improve your basic language skills. We will engage you with stimulating topics and encourage you to participate in real-life community projects. Activities are tailored to meet your needs at your skill level. There is no minimum TOEFL score to be admitted here, so if you’re a true beginner or an advanced English speaker, there’s a place for you at ELI!

You can gain so much from your experience in the United States both inside and outside the classroom! You will receive intensive academic English instruction to prepare you for study in America, including note-taking and test-taking skills, writing essays, listening to lectures and reading. You will learn conversational English through immersion in the campus culture. After you complete the term, you can enroll at Southwestern to start completing college credits that can be transferred to American universities while you build your English skills. It’s even possible for you to complete a bachelor’s or master’s degree from an American university right here at Southwestern Oregon Community College!
