Delivery Style:
This class uses the guided study method. Using this packet, students
guide themselves through the material.
Instructors and computer lab aides are available for consultation.
The course packet divides the course
topics into several small modules, giving the student learning objectives,
reading assignment, computer
assignment, and outcome requirements for that module.
Help Lab Sessions:
Office hours where you can get help from your instructor are attached
to this document. On a following page
are listed the hours the Tioga labs are open and computers are available
for you to use. The lab aides are
available during those hours to help you. We encourage you to
take advantage of the help provided by the lab
aides.
Work Schedule:
In your course packet you can find a calendar indicating all critical
dates and deadlines for this class.
Familiarize yourself with the dates noted as you are responsible for
meeting all deadlines. Feel free to
complete and submit your coursework in advanced of the deadlines, however,
any late work will be penalized
10% for each day past the due date.
As this class is a self-paced class, your instructor recognizes the
importance of flexibility in doing your
assignments. But it’s equally important that you keep pace with
the course work. To meet the critical
deadlines you must budget and structure your work time on a weekly
basis. See the instructor if the schedule
presents a problem and adjustments may be made, but only during the
first two weeks of the course.
Assigned Readings and Homework Assignments:
The assigned readings are listed in the course materials packet.
All readings are your responsibility.
Homework assignments and projects are listed with the course materials.
Homework and portfolio projects
must be submitted no later than the specified due date for full credit.
LATE
ASSIGNMENTS AND
PROJECTS WILL BE PENALIZED BY 10% FOR EACH DAY LATE. Homework
is intended to be an
independent learning experience and should be completed individually
though students are encouraged to
collaborate with others. Portfolio projects, however, must be
entirely the independent work of an individual
student. Instructions for individual assignments are included
in the specific module materials. Additional
exercises and assignments are available if you need additional practice
at the O’Leary Web site (see URL
below).
Assignment grading:
Each individual assigned homework skill exercise will be on a 2 point
basis according to the following
schedule:
2 points – Correct or essentially correct submittal with minor imperfections
1 points - Incomplete submittal or missed major concept
0 points - Not submitted
Turn in your homework to Kitty Newton in the lab. A sample template
for homework is attached near the end
of this document. It is a sample so you will need to modify it
as necessary but please identify each section by
its title and number them as they are numbered and sequenced in the
text.
After you have turned in a copy of your homework to Kitty please generate
an additional copy or boot up a
computer in the lab, put in your floppy, and access the original file
or files containing your homework, and
using an answer sheet/disk provided by Kitty, correct your own homework.
Immediate feedback is important
so you are encouraged to correct your homework right after you hand
in a copy and before you take an
exam. The copy you hand in for a grade will be assigned a value
ranging from 2 through 0 (see above) and
entered in the grade book. It is important to note that this
copy will not be returned to you as you have an
original that can be corrected using the answer sheet/disk provided.
Exams:
Exams can be taken at any time during the quarter in advance of exam
deadlines. ANY EXAM NOT TAKEN
BY THE SPECIFIED DEADLINE WILL BE PENALIZED BY 10% FOR EACH DAY PAST
THE
DEADLINE. Kitty Newton, Lab Aide, will administer all exams.
Exams may be taken between 1:30 PM and 5
PM or between 5:30 PM and 9 PM, Monday through Thursday, and between
8:30 AM and 4 PM on Fridays in
Tioga 409. If you are unavailable at these times or will not
be able to take exams on campus, please contact
your instructor for alternate arrangements.
After receiving an exam the student is responsible for turning in
his or her exam to Kitty Newton before
he or she leaves the lab. Any administered exams not returned will
result in a grade of F on that examine
for that examinee. No exceptions will be granted and no retakes
will be allowed.
Available Computer Lab Facilities:

instructor or administrator of material
based, in significant part, on work done by someone other than the
submitter without reasonable written
indication to the evaluator of the material's true source." Academic
cheating is defined as: "The intentional
submission for evaluation to a college instructor or administrator
of material based, in part, on a source or
sources forbidden by generally accepted standards or by regulation
established by the evaluator and disclosed

There are a number of enrichment activities
and short practice exams you can take based on units in
the Office XP and Windows XP texts.
These additional resources can be located on O’Leary
Homepage Student Resources Web site
at the following address:

Also available at this web site are

visit
this site and take advantage of the
resources it offers.
There are three primary modules you will
need to complete. Each module has assignments and each
assignment must be completed and handed in as paper or hard copy unless
otherwise indicated. It is
important however, that you keep on file all your homework so you can
access additional copies or
view the file when correcting your homework.
Each module has its own readings, assignments, and tests that you must
