I am a writing instructor at Southwestern’s Curry Campus where my responsibilities include teaching a wide range of composition courses both on site and online, coordinating student support services, and advising students enrolled in degree and certificate programs. I have been teaching at the college level since 2002. I taught writing at Arizona State University and College of the Redwoods before I started at Southwestern in 2004.
In my classroom, I practice and encourage active learning, team-structured work, and student-centered techniques. I believe these teaching methods encourage students to engage in problem solving and critical thinking as well as motivate them to take responsibility for their own learning. I also tremendously value instructing students on an individual basis in our writing lab or during conferences in my office. I believe this kind of one-on-one interaction to be essential to a writer’s development. In addition, I find individualized attention especially important when accommodating differing learning styles and special needs of non-traditional and at-risk students.
When I am not grading papers, I am a mom, a wife, a cook, a cleaner, and a fair weather surfer. I love exploring new trails on my mountain bike, inline skating around the neighborhood, and reading Salman Rushdie. I was born in Poland and still have my Polish accent. I live in Brookings, OR with my husband and two young sons.
