Crater Lake – Saturday, October 4th - The Crater Lake trip focuses on the geologic history of Crater Lake National Park. The intention is to drive the rim road, weather permitting, making a variety of stops that allow discussion of a variety of volcanic features and processes. Additional stops may include pillow basalts near Bridge, Colliding Rivers near Glide and Watson Falls prior to entering the park and the pinnacles which are often overlooked by casual tourists in the area.
Columbia Gorge – Friday, October 17th - Sunday, October 19th. The Columbia Gorge field trip will expose participants to the Columbia River Flood Basalts as they are exposed in the gorge. Some of the highlights include waterfalls, such as the famous Multnomah Falls, panoramic views from Vista House and Rowena Crest and a hike up Beacon Rock. On the return trip to Coos Bay we will also visit Mount Hood.
Agness Loop – Saturday November 8th - This trip will make a loop up around Powers and through the Agness Divide, returning to the coast along the Rogue River. A variety of rock types will be observed as well as the impacts of tectonics on the region. Due to the timing of this trip, road conditions may not allow this route to be taken safely. Should weather conditions force a change, the substitute trip will be north along the coast making a variety of stops between Coos Bay and Depoe Bay.
