Southwestern Oregon Community College

Better Teaching Workshop

Request for Proposals

In order to tap into the wealth of knowledge within our own Southwestern faculty, the Faculty Development Committee is sponsoring a series of “Better Teaching” Workshops on campus. Our vision is to provide an  opportunity to focus on current teaching issues and methods—a way to share “best practices” in a collegial and professional environment.

Requirements

Each workshop presenter will provide the following components:

  • A polished and professional two-hour block of instruction with appropriate learning materials.
  • Content should address current teaching methods that could apply to a broad range of disciplines.
  • Instructor should provide the participants opportunities for follow-up.

Notes

  • Presenters will receive a stipend for their efforts.
  • Faculty Development Committee will help provide room logistics and promotion.
  • The date and time will be determined by the presenter.
  • Example topics may include:
    • Writing Across the Curriculum
    • Using Collaborative Workgroups
    • Encouraging Critical Thinking
    • Helping Students Overcome Test Anxiety

To Propose a Workshop…

If you would like to propose a “Better Teaching” Workshop, please email the Faculty Development Committee (facdev@socc.edu) with the following:

  • The title of your workshop.
  • A brief description of content, including a statement of learning outcomes
  • Write as if your description will go on a flyer (which it will!).
  • A statement of your experience as it relates to your suggested topic.
  • Planned follow-up component, if applicable.
  • A list of equipment/resources needed.

Selections will be made by the Faculty Development Committee.
