Expressions West and Visions High School Art Competitions
Annually, the Southwestern Foundation supports the expansion of the campus's permanent art collection by partnering with the Coos Art Museum to sponsor the Expressions West and Visions art exhibits and competitions. Expression West is a juried exhibition featuring works chosen from hundreds of submissions made by artists from many western states. The top three pieces of art are acquired by the lobby of the Hales Center for the Performing Arts or the Oregon Coast Culinary Institute building on Southwestern's campus.
The Southwestern Foundation also partnered with competition. Open to high school students throughout southwestern Oregon, this event promotes the arts with purchase awards and two-year tuition waivers for the three top artists. The winning pieces are added to the Foundation's permanent collection and are displayed in the Hale Center for the Performing Arts and in offices throughout the campus. Altogether, the Foundation invests $10,000 annually in campus art.
