Foundation-sponsored speed golf tourney a success

Southwestern Oregon Community College golfer Johnny Wilson was the top finisher in his division at the Bandon Dunes Speed Golf Classic, sponsored by the Southwestern Foundation.

The sophomore from Astoria shot 86 over 18 holes and completed the course in 51 minutes, 21 seconds, for a total score of 137:21, good for third place overall and first in the 26 and younger age bracket. The two top overall golfers, both in the Pro Division, were Tim Scott (131:12) and Christopher Smith (134:18). Jim Kosciolek took top honors in the 26- to 44-year-old age group at 150:52 and John Hamilton was tops in the 45 and older division (148:41).

Speed golf is an 18-hole round of golf where score and amount of time used to complete the course are calculated in to the final rankings. In expanding its partnerships with Bandon Dunes, the Southwestern Foundation sponsored a complimentary breakfast to the golfers and volunteers at the event, with the entire Southwestern golf team counting among them.
