Sharon Barnett Memorial Scholarship
"I would like to express my gratitude to the Sharon Barnett Scholarship for giving me a helping hand to get through school. Let me share a little about myself. I grew up in North Bend, Oregon. I have lived in Montana, Idaho, Alaska, and British Columbia. The beauty of the Oregon Coast continues to bring me home time after time. I am a twenty- two year old single mother of an amazing eighteen month old son. My son is my inspiration and motivation in life. After graduating from college I plan on attending law school at the University of Oregon. With my law degree I plan on doing some type of criminal law, most likely prosecuting. As you can imagine, it is extremely difficult working, being a single mother and a full-time student, which is why this scholarship means just so much to me. Thank you so much for helping me reach my dreams. Sincerely, Lindsay Little."

"My name is Christopher Ernst and I am a nursing student at Southwestern Oregon Community College. I first want to thank you very much for your contribution to my educational future here at Southwestern Oregon Community College. I am very grateful for this scholarship because it will allow me to work a little less next year so I can put more effort into my education…I plan to graduate with my Associates degree in nursing at the end of 2007-2008 school year and continue on with my Bachelors degree through Oregon Health and Sciences University. I also plan on working as a registered nurse while I am continuing my education. After I complete the Bachelors program, I want to become a family nurse practitioner and maybe teach later on down the road. With Thanks, Christopher Ernst."

Sam Choat Scholarship
"Thank you for choosing me to receive this scholarship, I know you won’t regret it. I am planning on attending SOCC for at least the next two years. I know that staying in my hometown is the correct choice financially and because we have this amazing community college. I have lived in Coos Bay, Oregon my whole life and I have become really attached to my little community. In my spare time I enjoy playing tennis, soccer, and competitive card games. This year I was involved in knowledge bowl, the chess team, drama, and Forensics: Speech and Debate. I was the lead role in the play this year, “You Can’t Take it With You.” I also qualified for nationals in forensics, and actually, myself and my teammates are leaving tomorrow for Wichita, Kansas."
