Library Policies & Guidelines

Course Reserve - Faculty

Located in the library on the 2nd floor of the Tioga Building, the purpose of Course Reserve is to accommodate instructors wanting to make special print or audio/visual materials available for their classes. The materials are generally high use and/or supplemental in nature. Required textbooks may also be placed on Course Reserve. Instructors specify how long materials circulate and whether or not items may be checked out of the library.

  • All materials placed on Course Reserve must comply with the library's copyright policy. Please refer to this policy before placing copyrighted materials on Course Reserve.

Process for placing materials on Course Reserve :

  • For Southwestern library materials:
    • Complete online Course Reserve Form for each item.
    • Submit form(s) to Course Reserve Coordinator
    • Items will be pulled from shelf, processed, and placed on Course Reserve.

  • For non-Southwestern library materials:
    • Print and complete online Course Reserve Form for each item.
    • Take form(s) and item(s) to the library.

  • Please allow a minimum of one working day to process these items. Additional time may be needed at the beginning of each term.

  • Materials will be removed at the end of the requested term unless the Course Reserve Coordinator is notified. A list of those materials will be sent to instructors before they are removed.

Loan periods and circulation times are as follows:

2-hour loan .........

Due in 2 hours

1 day loan ..........

Due closing time the following day

3 day loan ..........

Due closing time on the 4th day

1 week loan ........

Due closing time on the 8th day

2 weeks loan .......

Due closing time on the 15th day

Renewals/Extending established loan periods:

  • Renewal of Course Reserve materials is at the discretion of the individual instructor.

  • Students may request a longer loan period for special circumstances. Library staff will not override the established loan period without the instructor's consent.

Fines & Charges:

  • Fines on overdue Course Reserve materials are automatic and accrue quickly.

  • Fines, billing and replacement costs vary depending on item and check out period.
