DISTANCE LEARNING

Many library services and electronic databases are available online to the Southwestern distance learning student, whether the student is on or off campus.

Obtaining Materials

Books/Media

  • Search COASTLINE for item information (e.g. author, title, publisher, date of publication). To reserve an item available in COASTLINE, place a hold request. Southwestern Distance learners placing hold requests must pickup and return items at Southwestern Library.  When students are registered through Curry county campus, items may be picked up and returned there.
  • When item is not available in COASTLINE, search Book Index with Reviews, Orbis and/or other library catalogs from the Southwestern Library's home web page for item information.

  • Place an interlibrary loan when appropriate. Southwestern Distance learners, including Curry county students, requesting interlibrary loans must pickup and return items at Southwestern Library.  Requesting interlibrary loans through a local library may provide faster service.

Periodical Article

  • If full-text article is not found, note article information (e.g. periodical title, issue #, issue date, article author, title and page #'s).
  • Check COASTLINE for periodical title/issue.
    • If the periodical is available at the Southwestern Library, obtain on 3rd floor of Tioga.
    • If available at other COASTLINE library, place a hold request for periodical article. Southwestern Distance learners must pickup article(s) at Southwestern Library. When students are registered through Curry county campus, articles may be picked up there.
  • When article is not available as full-text in EBSCOhost and title/issue is not in COASTLINE, place an interlibrary loan. Distance learners must pickup articles at Southwestern Library. When students are registered through a Curry county campus, articles may be picked up there.  Requesting interlibrary loans through a local library may provide faster service.
