COOS BAY, OR – Joseph Moquino, a guard for the Southwestern Oregon Community College (SWOCC) Men’s Basketball team, signed a national letter of intent, May 7, 2012 to continue playing basketball next year at Lewis-Clark State College, a NAIA Division I school and member of the Frontier Conference.
Dr. Julienne Stroeve from the National Snow and Ice Data Center will be talking about “The Rapidly Changing Arctic and What It Means For The Rest Of Us” at 7:00 pm on Saturday, May 19, 2012 in the Hales Center for the Performing Arts on the SWOCC Campus. This will be the final talk in the 2011-12 lecture series.
SWOCC wants to connect with all nursing alumni as plans are underway to celebrate the 50th class of nurses. Beginning their studies at SWOCC as early as 1962, the first nursing graduates walked across the commencement stage in 1963.
COOS BAY, OR – The Men’s and Women’s Basketball Programs at Southwestern Oregon Community College (SWOCC) will be conducting their fourth annual overnight summer basketball camp this summer in Coos Bay. The camp will be coached by college coaches Trevor Hoppe and Mike Herbert, as well as SWOCC Laker assistant coaches and former players.

COOS BAY, OR – Students from the 2011-2012 academic year will meet at the Oregon Coast Culinary Institute on Friday, June 8th at 4:00 p.m. These graduates will receive their GED credentials from the Oregon Department of Education after studying and preparing at Southwestern Oregon Community College Transition Education program. President Patty Scott and Directors from the Board of Education will address the students. Refreshments will follow.

National Child Care Provider Appreciation Day: May 11, 2012
Coos Bay, Oregon - The second Sunday in May has long been recognized as the day to honor mothers and their commitment to children. The Friday before Mother’s Day, May 11, 2012, is Provider Appreciation Day, a special day to recognize child care providers, teachers, school-age program staff, child care center directors and staff, and all those who work with children and are responsible for their education and care. It is estimated that nearly 166,000 children under age 5 are cared for by child care providers in Oregon.

Geology Lecture on Sea Level Rise and Increased Storminess in Pacific Northwest Coast
he geology lecture series continues with Dr. Peter Ruggiero (Oregon State University) on Friday, April 20, 2012 at 7:00 p.m. presenting "The Role of Sea Level Rise and Increased Storminess in Pacific Northwest Coastal Change and Flood Hazards". Dr. Ruggiero earned a BS from Lehigh University and MS and PhD degrees from Oregon State University. He has worked for the Washington Department of Ecology, the U.S. Geological Survey, and now is an assistant professor in OSU’s Department of Geosciences.

Class consists of warm-up, acupressure for lymph system health, simple standing and chair exercises, optional floor exercises, non-aerobic stretching, and yoga based muscle strengthening. Instructor Carol Harms has 20 years of experience teaching fitness for all.
