Forestry Degree Returns to Southwestern
Southwestern Oregon Community College has just approved a new Associate of Science (AS) degree in Forestry, to begin Fall Term 2014. The College is in the process of finalizing an articulation agreement with Oregon State University (OSU). This means that students who complete Southwestern’s AS degree in Forestry, will then be able to transfer as a full junior into the Bachelor of Science (BS) Forestry program at OSU.
"Walk A Mile in Her Shoes" Annual Awareness Event
On Wednesday April 30, 2014, Southwestern will host “Walk a Mile in Her Shoes: The International Men’s March to Stop Rape, Sexual Assault and Gender Violence”. Inspired by the saying that you can’t understand someone else’s experience until you’ve walked a mile in his (or her) shoes, men will literally walk one mile in women’s high heeled shoes!

Realtors Create College Scholarship Fund
The Coos County Board of Realtors® has joined with the Southwestern Oregon Community College Foundation to create a permanent scholarship fund. Over the next four years, the Realtors®’ will donate $10,000 to an endowment to fund annual scholarship awards to Southwestern students in their second year of college.

During this four-week course you will become familiar with sailing vessels while you learn boat handling, rigging, docking, and safety practices. Shift Happens Seminar
Coos Bay, OR – There is still time to register for the Southwestern Oregon Community College Small Business Development Center (Southwestern SBDC) and DFM Consulting, Inc. one day seminar entitled “Shift Happens.” When business leaders learn to SHIFT their perspective from problem solving to solution finding they engage with their workforce, customers and community in new ways that lead to solutions that may have been elusive. A solution finding perspective leads away from demoralizing and limiting beliefs to possibility thinking that results in improved bottom lines.
Spanish for Medical Professionals SPAN903401
COOS BAY, OR – Southwestern Oregon Community College is offering an evening Spanish course tailored to meet the needs of the health-care professional who has limited or no experience speaking Spanish and wishes to communicate with Spanish speaking patients and clients. The course can be taken for credit or audit. This 11-week course will be held in Sitkum Hall, Room 9 on Thursday evenings 6-8 p.m., April 3 – June 12.
Adult Foster Care Training CE994701
COOS BAY, OR – Southwestern Oregon Community College to offer Adult Foster Care (AFC) training starting April 26, 2014. AFC is basic training for adult foster care providers. This course stresses quality, individualized care including philosophy (capability, choices, dignity, individuality, privacy, home-like setting), how to meet residents’ needs in a community setting, screening for the right fit in home placement, as well as business operations as detailed by Oregon’s AFC regulations. The training costs $145 and will be held in Sitkum Hall, Room 10 on Saturdays April 26-May 17 from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Safe Driver Program in Gold Beach
GOLD BEACH, OR – An AARP Safe Driver course is scheduled for Saturday, April 12 from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Gold Beach Center, under the auspices of Southwestern Oregon Community College.
