Child and Adult Resources and Education

Who We Are and What We Do!

CARE Connections is the Family Education and Resources Department of Southwestern Oregon Community College. Our mission is to improve the quality of life for people of all ages by providing education, information and support to families and care providers in Coos and Curry Counties. CARE Connections links families and care providers to each other and to other resources in the community.

A brief description of CARE Connections component programs follows:

CHILD CARE RESOURCE AND REFERRAL
Child Care Resource and Referral links parents, child care providers, employers and the community to provide accessible, affordable, quality child care to all children. From the database, staff give parents referrals to a variety of child care settings. Parents receive education on how to choose safe, appropriate child care and information on community resources.

Providers on the database receive referrals and support for their child care
business. Resource and Referral offers training so providers can become professional in the child care and education field.

LIFESPAN RESPITE NETWORK
The Network is dedicated to supporting wellness of families who have a member with special needs. Lifespan Respite can help families find respite care. The Family Caregiver Program offers classes and support groups to family caregivers who are caring for someone age 60 or older and grandparents raising grandchildren. Lifespan Respite Network recruits respite care providers, identifies local training resources and develops training opportunities.

SOUTHWESTERN USDA
Southwestern USDA Food Program is available to eligible child care providers in Coos and Curry Counties. Providers receive cash reimbursement to help with day care food expenses and in-home trainings on nutrition awareness, sanitation needs and
record keeping. The program provides resources and information on a variety of child development /child care issues and on-going assistance and support to help the provider’s business succeed! In addition, children receive nutritional foods to foster healthy
development.
