Stafford Loan Steps

General Loan Information

In order to apply for a Federal Stafford Loan, follow the steps below:

1. Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or Renewal FAFSA online at  www.fafsa.ed.gov
2. Complete additional paperwork requested by Southwestern
3. Receive your Official Award Letter
4. First-time Southwestern loan borrower steps -
   1. Loan Request Form for First-time Southwestern borrowers
   2. Loan Entrance Counseling session
   3. Choose a lender - Southwestern offers a list of lenders that offer excellent customer service and borrower benefits. You are welcome to choose any lender you wish, but be sure to do your research.
5. Returning Southwestern loan borrower steps -
   1. Your previous loan application (MPN) and entrance counseling are still on file.
   2. Loan Request Form for Returning Southwestern Borrowers.
6. If you have questions regarding this process, you may contact the Student Loan Coordinator by email at faloans@socc.edu.
7. Once you have completed the term/year and your loan has ended, you will need to complete a Loan Exit Interview. You will be provided with the appropriate paperwork once your loan is completed.
