Education in Action!
Southwestern is committed to providing students with opportunities for enhancing critical thinking and problem solving skills; expanding community, career, and global self-awareness through service. This service can take many forms; from internships, to work-study, to civic engagement and finally service-learning, the possibilities are endless!
What does service have to do with Service-Learning? Service-Learning is a “course-based, educational experience that enriches learning by engaging students in meaningful service to their schools and communities.”
The Service-Learning program coordinates efforts to incorporate service-learning into the curriculum at Southwestern Oregon Community College. The Service-Learning Advisory Team (SLAT), comprised of faculty, staff, students, and community members, helps to direct those efforts, in addition to increasing the quality and quantity of civic engagement and internship opportunities for students.
Through collaboration and partnerships between Southwestern and area organizations, we’re building more engaged citizens for a better community!
