Campus maps are available on the Southwestern website at: http://www.socc.edu/about/directions/
Bus parking will be in parking lot #3 (signs will be posted).
Upon Arrival: Since each school arrives at different times due to their bus schedules, most students should report directly to their contests; there will not be a central meeting area except for math contestants. Staff will be making the rounds of campus to make sure the contests are running smoothly and everyone finds their contest.
Packets are distributed to high school faculty upon arrival that contain a roster of all the students from their school and the contests Southwestern has them registered for, maps & schedules, a pen, a highlighter, some scratch paper, pens for students, a few paperclips and a few post-its. High school teachers are asked to highlight student names that attend (or participate in any of the contests by submitting entries but chose not to attend), cross off those that don’t participate and write in any additional students (this helps in making up certificates of participation). Please correct spelling errors. Return rosters to Skills Day staff members, or leave them in Lakeview E/F (upstairs Empire Hall) along with any extra supplies before leaving for the day (they will be set aside for use next year). All participants receive a certificate of participation, so it is very important that the lists are accurate.
Lunch: An all-you-can-eat lunch is available from Southwestern Dining Services (cafeteria on campus), or participants can bring a sack lunch. Lunch tickets will be given to high school teachers after they arrive for students that have indicated they will be eating in the dining hall. The Southwestern Foundation and a grant have generously donated money towards the event to cover student lunches. Adults will be responsible for their own meal expenses. Be sure that you sign up your students for lunch when they register! Lunch is from 10:30 am –1:00 pm in Empire Hall. Please try to send your students in small groups every 10-15 minutes, so that not all students eat at the same time.
T-shirts/Posters. Please encourage your students to either wear a t-shirt promoting your high school or to wear a t-shirt from a prior Math & Skills Day. We will be using the winning entry from the poster design contest created last year by Nina Pelayo from Bandon High School to produce posters promoting the day.
