Fulfill your dreams through volunteer service. Opportunities abound
in 100 nonprofit and public service programs throughout Coos County.
More than 600 volunteers age 55 and above donate more than 100,000
hours provide $1.5 million in services that otherwise could not be
afforded – and help themselves to healthier, happier lives
as well. RSVP is your bridge to fulfilling service, giving back,
and sharing your “Experience of a Lifetime.” Membership
is free and benefits are many. For more information, contact the

SEXUAL HARASSMENT
Sexual harassment is defined as: Any repeated and unwanted sexual advances,
requests for sexual favors, and other verbal and physical conduct which
results in inhibition of unconstrained academic interchange or career
advancement, or creates an intimidating, hostile, or offensive environment
for one of the involved parties. If you believe you have been sexually
harassed, you should contact the Vice President of Administrative Services
in Tioga 512 or 541-888-7206.
SMOKING POLICY
Administrative policy 5.010 prohibits the use of tobacco of any
kind, by any person, in the following areas: Any building, room, or
vehicle that is owned, rented or used by the College, the areas under
the North and South overhang at the first floor levels of Tioga Hall,
and all areas within ten (10) feet of any door into College buildings.
SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBERS
Providing your social security number is voluntary. If you provide it, the
College will use your social security number for keeping records, doing research,
aggregate reporting, extending credit and collecting debts. Your social security
number will not be given to the general public. If you choose not to provide
your social security number, you will not be denied any rights as a student.
Please read the following statement, which describes how your number will
be used. Providing your social security number means that you consent to
use of the number in the manner described.
OAR 589-004-0400 authorizes Southwestern Oregon Community College
to ask you to provide your social security number. The number will
be used by the College
for reporting, research, and record keeping. Your number will also be provided
by the College to the Oregon Community College Unified Reporting System (OCCURS),
which is a group made up of all community colleges in Oregon, the State Department
of Community Colleges and Workforce Development and the Oregon Community
College Association. OCCURS gathers information about students
and programs to meet
state and federal reporting requirements. It also helps colleges plan, research,
and develop programs. This information helps the colleges to support the
progress of students and their success in the workplace and other
education programs. OCCURS or the College may provide your social security number to
the following agencies or match it with records from the following
system:
State and private universities, colleges, and vocational schools,
to find out how many community college students go on with
their education and to
find
out whether community college courses are a good basis for further education.

The mission of Southwestern Oregon Community College is to provide
quality education that helps students achieve their goals. Our programs
prepare people to be employable, value life-long learning, and function
as good citizens in a rapidly changing world. To accomplish this mission,

Programs
Southwestern offers two-year college transfer degrees.
- The Associate of Arts Oregon Transfer degree (AAOT) is transferable
to any school in the Oregon University System (OUS). Upon completion,
students transferring with this degree will have junior standing
for registration purposes to any OUS college or university.
- The Associate of Science degree (AS) is a college transfer degree
designed for the student who intends to transfer to four-year
programs at senior institutions of the Oregon University System
and whose
program requirements are more specific than the AAOT degree plan.
There are
currently ten areas of emphasis for the Associate of Science
degree.
Professional/Technical: Southwestern offers 30 programs in Certificates
of Completion of less than one year, one year Certificates
of Completion, and two-year Associate of Applied Science degrees.
The Associate of General Studies (AGS) is a new degree intended
to give individual students flexibility in using a variety
of college
level courses (generally 100 level or above), and academic
or collegiate level professional technical courses to meet
the college
level associate
degree requirements.
Literacy/Basic Skills: Southwestern offers individualized
and small group instruction in basic academic and study
skills, including non-credit
instruction for Adult Basic Education (ABE) and the Certificate
in General Educational Development (GED), as well as
credited developmental
courses.
Continuing Education: Southwestern offers credit and
non-credit personal interest and enrichment courses
at more than 60
locations within
the community.
Business Training: Southwestern offers contracted employee
training through the Training and Development Center
and assistance to
small businesses and the public through the Business
Development Center.
STUDENT 1ST STOP CENTER
The Student First Stop Center handles a variety of student services related
to:
- Registration Adding classes

- Grade processing Change of grade procedure
- Credit by challenge Full-time student status
- Financial Aid Student loans
- Federal Work Study Transfer credits

Students often “find out” too late that there are several
deadlines to meet while attending Southwestern. The Student First Stop
Center encourages you to plan ahead and to stop by the office when
you are in doubt about procedures or academic regulations.
