Counseling services are designed to promote student growth by encouraging positive
and realistic self-appraisal, intellectual and job skill development and appropriate
personal and occupational choices. Counseling services include:

CURRY COUNTY
Southwestern provides an extensive array of college transfer and community
education classes in Curry County, with the main Center located 100
miles south of Coos Bay in Brookings. The Brookings Center contains
a teaching computer lab complete with Internet access, a small open
computer lab, and three classrooms. The Gold Beach Center contains
a small computer lab for instruction and student use, with limited
Internet access, and a large classroom. In Port Orford, Southwestern
office hours are by appointment only. Classrooms are located in local
school and community buildings. Full registration services are available,
with local academic advising and book sales.
The Curry program allows students to live and work at home while advancing
their education and job skills. Several certificate and degree programs
are available over a period of time. Small class sizes and quality
instruction provide students with a great place to start out, then
transfer to the main campus or other schools for classes not locally
available. The schedule is supplemented by online and other distance
classes, with support and computer-linkage available at local centers.
Library services are inter-linked with local community libraries and
by online databases for periodicals and journals. Also, each community
library has Internet service that is provided with the online database
for easy student accessibility.

Contracted training

The Dean for Curry County in Brookings directs the Southwestern program
in Curry County. A quarterly schedule of classes is mailed to each
Curry County boxholder or can be obtained at local offices.

Employers often need specialized training at flexible times. Southwestern Oregon
Community College responds to these needs through the Customized Training and
Employee Development Program.
Customized Training provides a regular schedule of employee development,
supervision, and short-term computer training designed for
working individuals who are interested
in expanding their skills. These courses can also be customized to meet the
specific needs of an employer or group of employers. The customized training
program draws upon a vast cadre of resources and expertise from within the
college and from consultants and trainers to help you achieve your desired
performance.
