INTERNSHIPS
Stensland Hall, 888-1515
It is Southwestern Oregon Community College’s goal to provide a meaningful
internship experience for every student. A successful internship combines
classroom theory with practical experience in the workplace. Internships
may be on or off campus, credit or non-credit. Students who complete internships
have on-the-job experience that makes them more qualified for full-time
employment or continued education.
Cooperative Work Experience
This program is designed to provide firsthand job experience for those students
who have established a foundational base through classroom instruction. Students
work part-time, in conjunction with their scheduled classes, and receive
college credit based on the number of hours worked per term (1 credit hour
= 40 job hours). Work Experience is open to students who want to be placed
in a job or who are already employed. Work Experience is nontransferable
and is available to all students pursuing a one- or two- year degree.
Field Experience
This program is designed to add depth to classroom instruction through
knowledge application in the areas of Social Science, Science, and
Humanities. It provides students with an opportunity to investigate
career opportunities and the credits earned are transferable (30 job
hours = 1 credit hour). Students are usually assigned a research project
by the coordinator in addition to the job site experience.
LEARNING HUB
Tioga Hall, Fourth Floor, 888-7437
The Learning Hub is a networked computer lab using the latest technology
to provide access to software chosen by faculty to support classroom instruction.
Students can access the Learning Hub either by assignment by a faculty member
or on a “drop-in” basis. The Internet is accessible in the Learning
Hub and enforced access restrictions apply.
