We have all heard about the War in Afghanistan. More and more of my fellow Marines are being shipped overseas every month. Over the past year I have been training with the Marine Corps Reserves preparing to deploy to Afghanistan. During the summer months, my unit was looking forward to getting deployed in January of 2010. Recently, I was told that the majority of the unit I am with will be going, but a few Marines will be staying behind. Shortyl after, I heard that I was not selected to be deployed to Afghanistan. A sense of relief came over me, but I still feel like I should be over there now alongside my brothers. A good friend of mine that I have known since middle school was selected to go. He leaves this Wednesday for annual training in Virginia and then heads to Afghanistan in January. My thoughts and prayers will be with him and my other brothers and sisters over there right now. Remember what they fight for and why they sacrifice so much. Keep them in your hearts and don't take what we have here for granted.
