College Prepares for Celebration of Earth Day
Several departments throughout Southwestern Oregon Community College, as well as community partners Coos Watershed Association and the South Slough National Estuarine Research Reserve have assembled activities in celebration of Earth Day on April 22.

The Geology Lecture Series continues on Friday, November 30, 2012 at 7:00 pm with Dr. Loren Davis (Oregon State University) on "Finding Oregon's Ghost Coast: Sea Level Rise, Landscape Change and the Quest for the Earliest Coastal Peoples".
Community College Receives AT&T Environmental Grant, Showcases Coho Restoration
Award will leverage a local match of $110,033 to use wireless devices to track Coho salmon and teach entry-level students how to design a scientific study, develop research hypotheses, and incorporate the latest technology in natural resource science.

Dr. Rusty Stephens, President of Wilson Community College (WCC) in Wilson, North Carolina will be visiting the Bay Area to share his passion and vision of the role sustainability in the present and the future.

Graduation at the Southwestern Oregon Community College is going green. Students graduating this spring will wear environmentally friendly caps and gowns.

During the fall of 2009, Southwestern Oregon Community College realized the importance of becoming an area leader in sustainability. Such a goal would not only benefit the college, but would inspire those in all of the college’s neighboring communities to make better choices.
