The Teaching and Learning Center (TLC) at Southwestern Oregon Community College was created through the support of the 2006-2011 Title III Strengthening Institutions Grant to better assist faculty in providing exceptional learning opportunities at SOCC. It is a place where faculty can share knowledge, exchange ideas, use specialized software, and attend training. Located in the TLC are the TLC Coordinator and Instructional Technology Specialist who are available to assist faculty and staff with any aspect of teaching and learning, from course design and teaching strategies to technology integration and online instruction.

Karen Matson began working out of the TLC in January 2007 assisting faculty with development and delivery of their online courses. Karen assists both students and staff in resolving WebCT technology issues. Karen earned a B.S. with an emphasis in Psychology from Florida State University in 1985, and her M.S. in Information Studies from Florida State University in 2002. She worked at FSU as a neuroscience research associate for 17 years. She has been the Instructional Technology Specialist for WebCT at Southwestern since 2004.
Katie Paulson began her position as Title III Activity Director/Teaching and Learning Center Coordinator fall term 2007. In her new positions, she coordinates, monitors, and implements activities for the Teaching and Learning Innovations Grant. Katie began her work experience as a soldier in the U.S. Army. After leaving the military she worked in various careers including; administrative assistant in a high school counseling office, recreation center assistant and insurance agent while attending school. For the past five years, she taught in the Adult Learning Skills Program at SOCC. She earned a B.A. in Social Sciences from Washington State University in 1998 and a Masters of Education with emphasis in Adult Education from Oregon State University in 2006. She is currently working on her PHD in Education with a specialization in Instructional Design for Online Learning.
