Meet our 2022 Distinguished Alum
In May 2022, the college selected Carolyn Thompson as Distinguished Alum. Carolyn is a North Bend resident who has dedicated personal life and career to improving her profession, community and educational opportunities for others.

The Laker Alumni Association provides opportunities to promote, support, serve, reconnect and celebrate Southwestern's students and community. We also work to develop a network of people to honor the college's history and instill pride to create a legacy.
We accept nominations for Distinguished Alumni from January through April 1. We are committed to honoring individuals who have contributed selflessly to improving their lives, the lives of others and their communities.

Donald Ivy, 2021 Distinguished Alum
Don Ivy of Coos Bay and Chief of the Coquille Indian Tribe was a true community builder. An active leader throughout Oregon and the Northwest on tribal issues, he also inspired many people through decades of volunteerism, teaching about the region's history and genuine friendship. Chief Ivy passed away in July 2021, leaving a legacy of support for education, leadership in tribal issues and development, and advocacy for caretaking this land.

Meet Executive Chef Justin Wolf. Justin started his career journey in Southwestern's culinary program. Now he's top chef at the upscale Grants Pass wine and cheese eatery Partake Shop & Lounge.
